I realized today that the best way to feel good about myself is to think of a task - a mini-goal, and then get right on to it. The pride of accomplishment of a task - however small - is incomparable to anything in this world. A natural endorphin rush. The task can be just getting my ass off the couch to put away a glass, or to do my laundry, or just throw away a useless piece of paper. You feel so good that it spurs you on to do more.
Sometimes, when I think I can't do something (like exercising :) because I'm so overwhelmed with a number of other other tasks, I decide to forget about the rest of the tasks (on the surface it seems irresponsible), and then just jump to that one task that has been eating away at me. My reasoning: getting something of importance DONE is better than just thinking about everything and getting NOTHING done at all. And I always like to congratulate myself for doing what I did. It doesn't help any to dwell on what I didn't do. That would be such a waste of my precious energy! :)
